Context and contributions of the position
The Water Division (DE) is responsible for addressing societal needs related to water resource management and the environmental impacts of human activities on the geosphere. Water4All is a European partnership aimed at structuring water research (Water4All website). It brings together national funding agencies, ministries, and research institutes.
BRGM is involved in various cross-cutting activities within this partnership, particularly in data management, the PhD program, living labs, and research infrastructures. The research infrastructure activity aims to improve the information about water research infrastructures at the European level, facilitate their networking, and enhance access to the services and data they generate.
Job description
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France. BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The specific objective of this position is to help identify the needs and constraints of the academic community and water managers regarding data and services generated by research infrastructures and observatories. This will involve conducting a needs and constraints analysis through a literature review and a user survey. The analysis will conclude with a synthesis and prioritization of key areas for implementation, which will be presented at the 3rd Water4All workshop on Research infrastructure. This position will also contribute to improving the interoperability of data generated by these infrastructures in line with open science principles.
The missions will cover different type of activities:
- Interviews and data collection;
- Scientific literature review;
- Reports and deliverables writing;
- Missions abroad (EU).

You will demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of scientific data management;
- Interest in the structuring of European research;
- Analytical mindset and strategic vision;
- Ability and enthusiasm for conducting interviews in English with scientists;
- Autonomy in work organization;
- Excellent ability to read, speak, and write in French and English;
- Interest in working within an interdisciplinary team;
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, for presenting scientific and technical project results (publications, articles, conference presentations);
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
You hold a Master's degree (M2) in environmental sciences (preferably in water sciences) with desired experience in collecting and/or managing scientific water data or environmental data within a research organization.
Working conditions
This full-time position requires travel within France and occasionally abroad. The position is offered as a project-based contract (CDI de projet) with an estimated duration of approximately one year.
