Context and contributions of the position

Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.

BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.

The Guadeloupe regional office of the BRGM's main role is to support government services, target agencies, and local authorities, as well as to conduct research activities in all fields of Earth sciences.

This position specifically involves activities aimed at monitoring and understanding coastal phenomena from the perspective of natural hazards (coastal erosion and flooding, tsunami), in particular resilience to climate change, nature based solution and chronic flooding.

Job description

As part of your duties, your main responsibilities will be as follows:

- Initiating, leading, and carrying out regional projects in the following areas: observation networks of coastal dynamics, coastal risks and climate change, hydrosedimentary dynamics (estuaries, lagoons, coastline),
- Contributing to requests from government services in the context of expertise,
- Contributing to representing the BRGM in regional working groups,
- Contributing to the promotion of the "coastal" activity, identifying the needs of clients and partners, and developing new projects,
- Collaborating with other departments in the development and execution of projects,
- Applying the BRGM's quality and environmental management system (QMS/EMS).

Experience : 3 - 5 years

You hold a PhD, engineering degree, or a Master's degree (Master 2) in coastal sedimentology or oceanography, with a specialization in coastal dynamics (hydrodynamics, morphodynamics, coastal risks, etc.).

You have at least 5 years of professional experience in the field of coastal dynamics and sedimentary processes.

You should demonstrate the following skills and abilities :
- Strong knowledge of hydrosedimentary processes, weather-marine phenomena, and the analysis of coastal changes induced by storms and climate change;
- Knowledge of coastal management issues (regulation, institutions, etc.);
- Knowledge of tropical coastal environments;
- Experience with in-situ experimentation (topography, bathymetry, hydrometry, photo-grammetry) and the processing of hydrodynamic, geological, and geophysical data;
- Experience in cartography and GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS), with rigorous use of databases;
- Appreciated experience in the use of innovative coastal observation tools (video, drones, THR satellite remote sensing, terrestrial and aerial lidar...);
- Appreciated experience with numerical modeling tools and programming (especially Ma-tlab, Python);
- Boat license appreciated;
- Experience in technical and financial project management;
- Appreciated experience in developing and/or managing European projects;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, strong writing ability (technical reports, scientific publica-tions, outreach materials), and communication skills (leading meetings, presenting work);
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams ;
- Proficiency in English and Spanish (both oral and written);
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in delivering work (quality, budget adhe-rence, and meeting deadlines).

This full-time position involves travel within the Guadeloupe region, the Northern Islands (Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy), and potentially to the Caribbean or the technical and scientific center in Orléans.
