Context and contributions of the position
One of the current environmental challenges is linking all anthropogenic pressures to their consequences on hydrosystems and aquatic ecosystems as a whole.
Groundwater, in particular, is impacted, either directly or indirectly, by changes in practices and uses, both current and past. One of the objectives of the Groundwater Quality unit is to characterize and anticipate the evolution of the joint footprint of human activities and environmental processes on groundwater quality.
The unit wishes to strengthen its research team in this field by recruiting a researcher with a PhD in environmental chemistry or analytical chemistry applied to the environment.
Job description
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
You will be primarily responsible for:
- Contributing to the implementation of scientific research projects and public service missions of the unit;
- Writing reports;
- Disseminating research findings through international publications;
- Contributing to proposals for national and international project calls;
- Proposing new research directions and supporting public policies within the theme.
Profile

Education : PdD / Doctorate
Experience : 1 - 5 years
You hold a PhD in environmental chemistry or analytical chemistry applied to the environment and possess the following knowledge and skills:
Knowledge:
- Theoretical and practical knowledge in analytical chemistry of organic compounds;
- Knowledge of environmental chemistry (transfer of pollutants in natural environments – characterization of anthropogenic pollution);
- Interest or experience in laboratory experiments and sampling methods/strategies.
Skills:
- A strong affinity for interdisciplinarity, allowing you to use concepts and methods from various fields (geochemistry, hydrogeology, analytical chemistry);
- Ability to work in a team and interact with various stakeholders with different expertise (chemistry, environmental sciences, statistics);
- Strong synthesis and communication skills, both in writing (reports and scientific articles) and speaking, in both French and English.
