Context and contributions of the position
BRGM is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in the framework of the European project SPADES (Spatial Planning and Design with Soil) is a transnational EU research projects with the mission to develop, test and implement soil-inclusive spatial planning strategies to support the transition towards healthy soil in Europe and supporting the No Net Land Take 2050 objective of the European Union.
Job description
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The postdoctoral researcher's main activities will be to:
- Contribute to the design of the Web platform
- Contribute to the analysis of methods and tools for taking soil into account in territorial planning and development (spatialization of soil information, decision trees, etc.), including the need of additionnal data versus existing ones, and the identification of essential gaps and/or necessary adaptations of these methods and tools.
- Develop building blocks to fill gaps in existing methods/tools (including improvement and/or combination)
- Contribute to the development of the Web platform prototype and the drafting of its instructions for use
- Integrate feedback on the platform and associated methods/tools to improve them
- Contribute to the dissemination and valorization of results.

Education : PhD
Experience : 1 - 5 years
You will mobilize the following skills and qualities :
- PhD in geosciences, soil science, geomatics or related field.
- Experience in spatializing information, preferably in the field of soil health.
- Good programming skills (Python, R, or other languages suitable for modeling) and Web development
- Knowledge of territorial planning or urbanism if possible
- Knowledge of environmental sciences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good scientific communication skills, including writing scientific reports and articles. - Sufficient command of English to write project deliverables in English and interact with European project partners

The post-doc will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary research team working on the SPADES project. He/she will interact with the other members of the consortium. He/she will benefit from a stimulating work environment.
