Context and contributions of the position

The Department of Territorial Initiatives (DAT) is composed of 18 regional directorates, including 13 in mainland France and 5 in the overseas territories, 5 regional delegations, as well as 2 branch offices in New Caledonia and French Polynesia (currently suspended).
These entities are organized into 3 geographical sectors: 2 in mainland France (Eastern and Southern Sector – SES, and Northern and Western Sector – SNO) and 1 overseas sector (SOM).
The total workforce is approximately 200 people, including engineers, researchers, technicians, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, assistants, regional directors, and deputy directors.

The DAT is responsible for all scientific priorities and for implementing the institution's strategy across the regions, in coordination with the Orléans-based directorates. It carries out activities in support of public policies, research, and expertise throughout the entire French national territory.

Job description

Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France. BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.

You will be primarily responsible for:

• Contributing to the management of the DAT by directly overseeing the Eastern and Southern Sector (SES), composed of 10 regional directorates and delegated directorates in the regions of Grand Est, Bourgogne–Franche-Comté, Auvergne–Rhône-Alpes, Occitanie, Provence–Alpes–Côte d'Azur, and Corsica, while ensuring a regular on-site presence;
• Representing the Director in all internal and external bodies;
• Contributing to the overall leadership of the Directorate, in close coordination with the two other Deputy Directors and with the support of the Finance Directorate;
• Participating in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the multiannual strategy and the annual objectives roadmap;
• Overseeing, on behalf of the entire DAT, one or more cross-functional responsibilities related to day-to-day operations (logistics, facilities and real estate, IT, training, safety, quality management, “DAT Days” events);
• Facilitating relations between regional directorates and thematic operational directorates;
• Contributing to enhancing the scientific visibility of regional activities;
• Supporting the development and deployment of the DAT strategy within the regional directorates;
• Ensuring coordination with the Scientific Directorate, DICI, and D3P regarding actions related to territorial strategy and SES sector activities;
• Supporting the regions, where necessary and depending on strategic priorities, in external relations with senior elected officials, local partners, and civil society stakeholders;
• In the context of scientific output, ensuring coordination of production and contributing to the performance of the Quality and Environmental Management System (QMS/EMS).

• Proven and validated management experience;
• Experience in business relations would be an asset;

• Good knowledge of contracting authorities, local funding bodies, and regional scientific partners;
• Proven experience in project development and management;
• Proactive mindset and strong sense of responsibility;
• Team spirit and commitment to the collective interest.
