Context and contributions of the position
The Scientific Director M/F is a member of the BRGM's executive team, a public industrial and commercial establishment (EPIC) that is a reference in applications related to the subsurface and its resources. Directly reporting to the General Management, he/she drives the scientific strategy of the establishment and coordinates all associated scientific programs.
The Scientific Directorate plays a major cross-cutting role in supporting operational departments and interfacing with national and international partners. It ensures the link between the scientific strategy and its operational deployment across the entire spectrum of BRGM's activities.
You will be primarily responsible for defining, breaking down, and implementing the BRGM's scientific strategy, in line with societal challenges and national and European priorities in terms of ecological transition, resource management, and soil and subsurface risks.
You manage a team of about fifteen people.
You develop and oversee the scientific strategy: coordinate the development and evolution of the scientific strategy based on internal and external foresight, covering the entire spectrum of activities (research, support for public policies, expertise, innovation). Break down the scientific strategy into programs aligned with the main issues addressed by the BRGM. Lead the BRGM Scientific Committee.
Job description
You will mobilize the following skills and qualities in particular :
- Coordination of the institution's scientific programs: lead and supervise a team of Program Directors (PD) across the entire value chain (research, expertise, innovation); coordinate the development and monitoring of program roadmaps and oversee the institution's scientific assessment, particularly for HCERES. Stimulate and initiate major projects in various funding frameworks (European, national, and regional).
-Partnership strategy and representation: propose and implement the strategy for scientific collaborations and partnerships. Coordinate the representation of the BRGM in European, national, and regional scientific bodies. Develop and coordinate the BRGM's site strategy and its evolution.
-Scientific animation and renewal: oversee the scientific animation policy and associated tools (programming of self-funded actions, doctoral and post-doctoral programs, HDR policy, internal and external animation actions). Contribute to the establishment's scientific mediation policy,
-Competence development and training: identify, with the support of the HR department and operational departments, the long-term evolution needs of the institution's scientific competencies. Supervise the initial training policy under the BRGM Campus label.
- Scientific performance assessment: oversee the processes for monitoring and capitalizing on scientific output and performance evaluation, particularly within the framework of HCERES assessments.

Experience: More than 15 years
Recognized scientist, you must demonstrate significant experience in scientific management and team leadership, with an in-depth understanding of the challenges in Earth sciences and the environment. Similarly, an:
-Experience in the design and management of multidisciplinary research programs,
-Recognized expertise in the field of Earth sciences and the environment or related fields,
-Knowledge of public policies, national and European R&D, and associated funding schemes,
-Mastery of the challenges of research transfer and valorization, managerial skills and leadership,
-Capacity to unite and animate diverse scientific collectives,
-Proven experience in strategic, cross-functional management and change management,
- Ability to represent the institution in national and international bodies,
- Ability to engage in dialogue with supervisory authorities, institutional partners, and socio-economic stakeholders,
-Strategic vision and foresight capabilities,
-Excellent written and oral communication skills, fluent English
-International openness and extensive professional network,
- Rigor, integrity and commitment.
