Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The mission of the Direction de l'Eau (DE) is to provide answers to societal needs in terms of water resource management and the environmental impact of human activities on these resources.
You will join the Numerical Modeling of Aquifers Unit (MNA) to contribute to modeling activities as well as to the development and/or validation of the performance of various computational codes in hydrogeology and hydrology. This will involve bringing innovative approaches aimed at supporting research efforts and increasing knowledge about aquifer systems and associated water environments (rivers, groundwater zones, etc.) in order to optimize their quantitative and qualitative management at different scales (local, regional, national).
Job description
You will be mainly responsible for:
- Contribute to the integration of innovative approaches in hydrogeological modeling using artificial intelligence and/or data assimilation methods and multi-objective management optimization under uncertainty;
- Participate in research projects focused on the quantitative and qualitative management and protection of groundwater resources, particularly in relation to surface waters and global changes;
- Model subsurface flows linked to surface waters (aquifer-river exchanges and urban networks) and assess the impacts of climate change (climate scenario projections);
- Contribute to and coordinate the preparation of public or private research projects, support for public policies, and international cooperation;
- Proactively propose and respond to national and European research project calls;
- Disseminate results through technical reports and publications.
