Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The Water Department's (DE : Direction de l'eau) mission is to provide solutions to societal challenges regarding water resource management and the environmental impacts of human activities on the geosphere.
Within scientific activities (R&D, support for public policies, expert assessments), the main mission of the DE/DRE unit (Data and Groundwater References) is to define indicators and develop decision-support tools for groundwater data users.
It implements organizational and technical solutions to ensure the consolidation of environmental data, in close collaboration with other DE units, the Territorial Actions Department (DAT), and the Digital Department (DNUM).
Job description
As part of your missions, you will be required to:
-Carry out or contribute to expert assessments and support for public policies regarding quantitative water resource management.
-Contribute to the production of the Groundwater Situation Report, manage and maintain the national piezometric network, and ensure data qualification within the groundwater database (ADES).
-Participate in preparing technical and financial proposals, including for European research projects.
-Contribute to developing study programs and organize their implementation.
-Develop and adapt study methodologies.
-Promote results through reports and publications.
-Develop or contribute to the development of indicators assessing the quantitative status of aquifers.
Profile

Experience: 1 - 5 years
Full-time position. You hold a PhD in the field of hydrogeology and have at least 3 years of professional experience.
You will demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
-Proven experience in the field of quantitative hydrogeology;
-Strong multidisciplinary technical knowledge in hydrogeology;
-Proficiency in computer tools: specialized calculation software, GIS, and database management;
-Understanding of concepts related to indicators and management thresholds, environmental objectives, and allowable water withdrawal volumes;
-General knowledge of public policies in the water sector and of local private and public stakeholders and decision-makers;
-Rigor, analytical and synthetic thinking, and a strong sense of responsibility;
Initiative, curiosity, and aptitude for innovation.
