Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 25 bases in Mainland and Overseas France. BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
You will join the Subsurface Knowledge and Geomodelling Division (DCGS), within the Deep Geophysics and Remote Sensing Unit (GTP).
This team is dedicated to developing innovative geophysical and satellite-based methods for imaging and monitoring subsurface energy and mineral resources.
In this context, you will contribute to and/or lead R&D and operational seismic projects covering a wide range of applications, including mineral resources, geothermal energy, CO₂ storage, and geological mapping.
You may also apply your expertise to projects within the Surface Geophysics and Remote Sensing Unit (GTS), addressing topics such as geohazard assessment related to gravitational instabilities (e.g., landslides, subsurface cavities), groundwater resource evaluation, and geotechnics.
Job description
Your main responsibilities will include:
-Developing innovative seismic acquisition approaches (e.g., novel sensors, sources, optimized survey geometries, Distributed Acoustic Sensing – DAS),
-Advancing state-of-the-art seismic processing, imaging, and inversion methods (e.g., hard-rock seismics, artificial intelligence, Full Waveform Inversion – FWI, Quantitative Interpretation – QI),
-Designing, organizing, supervising, and/or contributing to marine and land seismic field campaigns; processing, interpreting, and exploiting acquired datasets,
-Contributing to and/or coordinating the development of collaborative research programs, public policy support projects, and commercial activities in seismic methods,
-Preparing and responding to calls for proposals in partnership with research institutions and industry stakeholders,
