Context and contributions of the position
For a more sustainable development and management of territories, BRGM develops integrated approaches to the management of natural risks impacting the soil, subsoil and coastal strip, as well as risks resulting from human activity, linked to sites and soils degraded by industrial activities or former mining activities. In this context, the Risks Department provides its expertise in the management of risks related to the soil and subsoil, whether of natural or man-made origin. The position is offered in the RMVT unit (Ground instabilities risks) dealing specifically with risks linked to :
• Clayey soil shrinkage and swelling
• Natural and man-made underground cavities (including detection)
• Landslides, block falls, mudslides, debris flows, …
• Soil erosion phenomena due to runoff
Job description
The missions will focus on:
- Technical studies, expert appraisals, project management assistance;
- Contributions to PPRN development (natural hazard prevention plan), hazard characterization and mapping;
- Geotechnical calculations (geotechnical modeling and instabilities);
- Tender preparation (expert appraisals, research projects, commercial projects);
- Project management;
- Production (reports, studies, expert appraisals) and scientific dissemination (papers, conferences, public communication);
- Technical and scientific watch
Profile
Desired start date: As soon as possible

Education level: Bac + 5
Experience: 10 - 15 years
Proven skills in geotechnics, soil and rock mechanics;
Knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, civil engineering and underground structures; Autonomy, initiative;
Good interpersonal skills;
Thoroughness; Respect for deadlines; Good writing and speaking skills; Good level of English.
Working conditions
Full-time position. Frequent short-term travel. Occasional medium-term travel.
