Context and contributions of the position
The Energy and Decarbonization Division (DED) conducts scientific activities aimed at promoting the sustainable and secure development of carbon-free energy production and use while helping to increase energy autonomy. It works in particular on geothermal energy and heat storage, carbon capture and storage, natural hydrogen, underground storage of energy carriers, and radioactive waste storage.
These technologies can greatly contribute to the energy transition but must be integrated into future energy systems and local socio-economic contexts.
The DED also conducts research on the governance of energy resources and underground uses from a systemic perspective to promote their deployment within sustainable economic models.
In this context, you will join a team of researchers and engineers from various specialties and participate in the development of the department's activities and expertise. You will be part of the "Integrated Energy Systems” unit team.
You will be required to set up, lead, or participate in large-scale projects with an international outlook. You will work to develop demonstration sites and mature innovations. After an induction program and participation in various projects, you will be able to acquire your own expertise by gradually specializing.
Job description
As part of your duties, you will primarily be responsible for:
- Developing applied research and innovation projects, aligned with the scientific strategy of the Energy and Decarbonization Division (public and/or private partnership) in France or international.
- Managing collaborative projects on the subsurface and the energy transition.
- Conducting technical studies implementing multi-disciplinarity at BRGM or with its academic and industrial partners.
- Integrating various technological building blocks enabling new uses of the subsurface for the energy transition.
- Conducting technical and economic analyses of proposed solutions.
- Conducting technical and regulatory monitoring.
- Contribute to BRGM's scientific output and promote this work through scientific and technical reports, publications, and conference participation.
- Participate in public policy support projects at the national or local level, drawing on the expertise developed.
