Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The Energy and Decarbonization Division (DED) conducts scientific activities aimed at promoting the sustainable and secure development of carbon-free energy production and use while helping to increase energy autonomy; it works in particular on geothermal energy and heat storage, carbon capture and storage, natural hydrogen, underground storage of energy carriers, and radioactive waste disposal.
Job description
Within the department, the missions of the “Integrated Energy Systems » Unit unit are as follows:
- Conducting multi-criteria analyses of the integration of the subsurface into the energy transition, and producing systemic models integrating the subsurface and surface;
- Integrating a socio-economic approach to inform stakeholders in the field;
- Developing hybrid uses of the subsurface;
- Developing new exploration and exploitation methods using coupled phenomenological modeling, experiments, and demonstrators.Generally speaking, developing technological innovations related to the energy sector, drawing on BRGM laboratories and platforms.
In particular, you will lead research projects including modeling hydrogeological systems for energy use, primarily geothermal exploitation and heat storage.
As part of your duties, you will primarily be responsible for:
- Conducting thermo-hydro models in surface and deep geothermal energy and applying them to heat storage.
- Preparing proposals and responding to calls for public and/or private research partnerships.
- Contributing to BRGM's scientific output through publications and technical studies
- Participating in public policy support projects, at the national or local level, drawing on the expertise you have developed.
