Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The Energy and Decarbonation Division (DED) conducts scientific activities aimed at promoting the sustainable and secure development of carbon-free underground energy production and use, while helping to increase energy independence.
It works in particular on geothermal energy and heat storage, carbon capture and storage, natural hydrogen, underground storage of energy carriers, and radioactive waste storage.
Within the department, the missions of the Subsurface Potential for Storage and Energy Unit (PSE) are as follows:
- Acquire and integrate data to determine potential
- Create models associated with business integration;
- Capitalize on and disseminate data (e.g., potential map, favorability zone)
Job description
You will be primarily responsible for:
- Characterizing geothermal and hydrogen resources and underground storage sites (heat, gas, radioactive waste);
- Understanding the conditions for the potential exploitation of these resources;
- Developing and conducting multi-method geophysical activities applied to reservoir exploration and the assessment of underground potential, such as those associated with these resources, which will be part of R&D missions, public policy support, and commercial activities, both in France and internationally.
