Context and contributions of the position

You will work in the Geomodelling and Data-Sciences (CGDS) unit of the Geophysics and Geomodelling Division (DCGS). The Geomodelling and Data Science unit provides methodological tools and digital solutions to BRGM's experts, enabling them to extract knowledge from data. The unit develops methods and digital tools for constructing predictive models, simulators, and knowledge graphs, using high-performance numerical computing, machine learning (AI), and geostatistics.
Additionally, the unit develops geomodelling tools essential for creating 3D/4D geological models of France.

As part of your role, you will contribute to processing, modelling, and interpreting geological data in multidisciplinary studies. More broadly, you will develop expertise and research activities in applied geostatistics across various domains, including mineral resources, reservoir potential assessment, and geothermal energy.

Job description

Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.

BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.

Within research and expertise projects in France and internationally, you will be responsible for :

Conducting geostatistical studies and 3D geological models for applied geology topics such as :
- Quality control and enhancement of public data managed by BRGM ;
- Thematic mapping ;
- Geothermal energy ;
- Sedimentary basin synthesis ;
- Mining and post-mining assessments.

Participating in multidisciplinary studies by integrating Geology-Geostatistics and uncertainty quantification into fields such as :
- Groundwater ;
- Natural hazards ;
- Energy and environment ;
- Mining.

Developing geostatistical processing and geological modelling methodologies and contributing to their dissemination.

Profile

Requested start date : 01/05/2025
Education : Master degree
Experience : 1 – 5 years

You should demonstrate the following skills and abilities :

- Data analysis and processing ;
- 3D Geological modelling techniques and tools ;
- Expertise in geostatistics ;
- Knowledge of geology ;
- Knowledge of (seismic) geophysics would be a plus ;
- Project management ;
- Ability to communicate and collaborate across BRGM's various disciplines ;
- Communication skills (oral and written).

This full-time position involves travel, occasionally in France and abroad.
