Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The Regional Directorate of Martinique is primarily responsible for supporting public policies and conducting research, particularly in the fields of groundwater management, natural and anthropogenic hazards, and geothermal energy.
Job description
You will be primarily responsible for:
- Contributing to hydrogeological studies (particularly the exploration of new resources) aimed at supporting local authorities, the Martinique Water Office, and decentralized State services in the management of groundwater resources in the region;
- Collecting, storing, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data for interpretation or integration into modeling tools;
- Conducting fieldwork for geological and hydrogeological surveys: outcrop descriptions, conductivity measurements, flow gauging, monitoring of test pumping and boreholes;
- Producing GIS documents: data entry, digitization, thematic analyses, map layout and editing;
- Writing scientific reports and presenting results orally.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong foundational knowledge in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, and applied geophysics;
- Familiarity with hydrochemistry and water-related regulations (such as the EU Water Framework Directive) is an asset;
- Proficiency in geomatics, with regular use of at least one GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.);
- Experience with Python or Matlab programming would be a plus;
- Scientific rigor and intellectual curiosity, enabling progressive autonomy in data interpretation;
- Excellent writing skills for the production of scientific and technical reports;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams;
- Capacity for independent work and initiative;
- Valid category B driving license.
