Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of the leading public institution for Earth sciences, bringing together 1,000 passionate experts across 29 offices located in mainland France and overseas territories.

The aim of BRGM's Mineral Resources Division is to conduct a comprehensive, multidisciplinary study of the various aspects of the life cycle of ores, geomaterials and primary mineral resources extracted from the subsoil, as well as secondary resources produced by recycling. It covers the various stages of the value chain, from the mechanisms of deposit genesis, exploration and characterization of rocks and minerals, to ore and waste processing, including the geopolitical, economic, environmental and societal assessment of the upstream and downstream sectors.
You will join the Innovative Processes for Minerals unit and contribute to the scientific and technical production in the field of primary and secondary mineral resource processing/upgrading (industrial waste, urban mining resources, by-products).
Job description
Your main responsibilities will be as follows:
- Design and implement experimental set-ups for the development of material recovery processes in collaboration with technicians and under the responsibility of Project Managers,
- Carry out studies to develop and optimize mineralurgical processes,
- Model unit processing operations to help understand the phenomena involved,
- Simulate processes in order to extrapolate equipment and installations to industrial pilot scale,
- Formatting and releasing results in writing (reports, publications) and orally (working meetings, conferences).

Expérience: 1 to 5 years
You have the following skills and qualities:
- Proven skills in mineralurgy (comminution, physical and physico-chemical separative techniques),
- Desired skills in process/chemical engineering,
- Desired skills in hydrometallurgy (dissolution, precipitation, liquid/liquid separation, electrolysis, etc.).
- Ability to work with rigor and precision, particularly in the BRGM laboratory or pilot plant, and to synthesize and communicate scientific results.
- Ability to organize daily work independently, but also to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in English (read, written and spoken) and French (written and spoken).
Process modeling and simulation skills (e.g. on one of the following software packages: Fluent, Comsol, Prosim, Aspen or Syscad) would be a plus.
Working conditions
This full-time position involves frequent short-term travel in France and abroad. Laboratory work and use of chemicals
