Job description

The BRGM Department of Mineral Resources aims to conduct comprehensive and multidisciplinary studies of the different aspects of ore and geomaterial life cycles, including both primary extracted materials and recycling. It, therefore, focuses on the various stages of the value chains from the mechanisms controlling the genesis of deposits, the exploration and characterization of rocks and minerals, to the processing of ores and waste materials, as well as the geopolitical, economic, environmental and societal assessment of upstream and downstream sectors.
As part of the challenges of securing supplies of critical mineral raw materials for the energy and digital transitions, the Department of Mineral Resources is carrying out work to develop our knowledge of the nation's mineral potential as well as the geological processes responsible for mineralization.
It is notably fully engaged in the Mineral Resources Inventory project as well as in scientific projects at the national (PEPR—Subsurface as a common good) and European levels.
The Department of Mineral Resources also supports international stakeholders in developing the skills of counterparts or in implementing exploration programs for the search for critical materials.

In the course of your duties, you will primarily be required to:

-Participate in the technical operations of the Mineral Resources Department's projects in France and internationally in the field of critical raw materials (metals and industrial minerals) ;

-Conduct metallogenic and geological studies, as well as exploration for critical metals and industrial rocks and minerals;

-Conduct technical and economic monitoring of the activities of the various industrial sectors ;

-Contribute to enhancing the visibility of industrial materials and, more generally, geomaterials to European authorities;

-Collect and interpret data on industrial materials , produce inventories, and integrate the information available in scientific and cartographic tools;

-Manage data within BRGM databases for mineral resources ;

-Participate in the scientific dissemination of work, notably through the preparation of summary documents, expert reports and scientific publications.

You will draw on the following skills and qualities:

-Excellent geoscientific knowledge in the fields of ore deposits and industrial materials, including the geological processes responsible for their formation;

-Knowledge and experience in processing exploration data (geology, geophysics and/or geochemistry) ;

-Knowledge of the extractive industry (mines and quarries) and its stakeholders ;

-Mastery of techniques and tools for acquiring geological and exploration data in the field as well as knowledge of industrial mineral processing methods;

-Possible knowledge of the specific properties of industrial rocks and minerals and the tests used to qualify them for their uses in civil engineering ;

-Applied experience and proficiency with GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS) and data processing tools (Excel, Access, etc.) ;

-Oral and written skills in French and English (reports, conference presentations, scientific publications);

-Excellent interpersonal skills, motivation for field work and ability to work in a team environment;

-Ability and initiative to make proactive suggestions.
