Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
As part of its missions in the Île-de-France region, BRGM supports the decentralized services of the State and local authorities in all fields related to land and subsoil applications, with a particular focus on groundwater management.
In a context marked by increasing anthropogenic pressures and the effects of climate change, the preservation of both the quantity and quality of groundwater resources is a major issue. These resources account for more than 90% of the region's drinking water supply. The actions undertaken focus primarily on the monitoring of aquifers at the regional scale, improving knowledge (geometry, hydrodynamic functioning), and providing technical support to state services and local authorities responsible for water management.
Job description
Within the regional management team, your main duties will include:
- Leading and conducting studies as part of projects related to water and the environment (quantitative and qualitative resource management, extractable volumes, aquifer potential, interactions between groundwater and rivers, etc.);
- Managing, monitoring, and optimizing the regional piezometric network to ensure a high level of operational efficiency and representativeness of groundwater masses;
- Producing and contributing to reporting on the quantitative status of aquifers (regional and national bulletins);
- Participating in the development of regional activities, particularly in the fields of water and energy transition, especially geothermal energy;
- Responding to requests from state services and local authorities, in coordination with the regional director and experienced hydrogeologists, and providing technical expertise and assessments;
- Promoting and disseminating the results of work (reports, summaries, scientific publications, oral and written communications, participation in working groups, engagement with civil society and the media);
- Actively contributing to the team's output while adhering to the quality management system.
This full-time position, based in Paris (Île-de-France), is part of a 5-member team in the Île-de-France region. You will work closely and regularly with BRGM teams in neighboring regions, as well as with those at the Technical Center in Orléans. Occasional travel within the region and to the Orléans Scientific and Technical Center may be required.
Profile
