Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The Auvergne–Rhône–Alpes Regional Directorate of BRGM, with offices in Lyon and Clermont-Ferrand, supports State services, public institutions, and local authorities.
It carries out R&D and expert activities in the fields of soil and subsoil, with a particular focus on groundwater resources.
In a context of increasing anthropogenic pressures and climate change, key challenges relate to improving knowledge, management, and the quantitative and qualitative preservation of groundwa-ter resources.
Activities notably include piezometric monitoring, enhancement of hydrogeological knowledge, support to public policies, and technical assistance to State services (Support to Admi-nistrations / Water Police).
Job description
You will be primarily responsible for:
- Leading and providing technical input to studies and projects related to the management and protection of groundwater resources (quantity, quality, groundwater–surface water interactions, thermal waters);
- Organizing and supervising fieldwork related to water resources (well monitoring, water level and discharge measurements, piezometry, water sampling and analysis);
- Carrying out ad hoc expert assessments (support to administrations, third-party expertise);
- Supervising or contributing to studies involving groundwater level forecasting and/or modeling, in coordination with specialized teams;
- Contributing to the monitoring and reporting of regional and departmental piezometric networks;
- Drafting and presenting study results in compliance with the quality management system;
- Contributing to the development of regional activities and partnerships in the fields of water and the environment.

You will be primarily responsible for:

• Organizing and supervising fieldwork related to water resources (well monitoring, water level and discharge measurements, piezometry, water sampling and analysis);
• Carrying out ad hoc expert assessments (support to administrations, third-party expertise);
• Supervising or contributing to studies involving groundwater level forecasting and/or modeling, in coordination with specialized teams;
• Contributing to the monitoring and reporting of regional and departmental piezometric networks;
• Drafting and presenting study results in compliance with the quality management system;
• Contributing to the development of regional activities and partnerships in the fields of water and the environment.
You have at least 5 years of experience in a similar position and demonstrate:
• Strong expertise in hydrogeology and in the disciplines of the water cycle;
• Proven experience in conducting studies and fieldwork related to groundwater resources and water quality;
• Excellent writing skills;
• Experience with data management tools and GIS (QGIS), with an interest in piezometric data and hydrogeological instrumentation.
An asset: knowledge of geothermal energy, aquifer modeling, and/or emerging pollutants.

Working conditions
This is a full-time position, based in Villeurbanne. It involves regular travel within the region and occasional travel to the Orlé-ans Scientific and Technical Center, as well as to provide support to other regional offices..
