Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The regional directorate of Guyane at BRGM has the main mission of supporting the decentralized state services, local authorities, and private partners in all fields of Earth sciences.

Job description
As part of your duties, your main responsibilities will be as follows:
• Designing, leading, and implementing regional public service and scientific research projects covering the following areas:
Geological knowledge (geological mapping, heritage inventory, petrology, structural geology);
Knowledge of mineral and mining resources (petrology, metallogeny);
Mining environment (exploitation and rehabilitation, processes, safety).
• Conducting expertise and research work in the field of hazard and natural risk assessment and management related to land instability or movements: crisis intervention, hazard mapping, etc.
• Conducting scientific expertise in compliance with the BRGM's expertise charter.
• Supervising activities related to geological knowledge of the territory and making subsoil information available and valuable (establishment of geological maps, BSS, public reception, etc.).
• Providing geological knowledge and support to other project managers in the fields of hydrogeology, coastal areas, and the environment.
• Contributing with the regional director to the promotion of activities, identifying the needs of clients and partners, and developing projects and/or tenders, including regional cooperation.
• Contributing to the BRGM's quality and environmental management system (QMS/EMS).

Experience : 5 – 10 years
You hold a degree in geological engineering or a PhD in geology, with at least 5 years of professional experience in this field.
You should demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
• Strong knowledge in fundamental and applied geology, particularly in mapping and risk management. Expertise in bedrock geology would be an asset.
• Passion for field geology and applied geology.
• Proficiency in regolith and superficial formations.
• Knowledge of mineral resources and the mining/quarrying environment
• Strong aptitude for fieldwork, particularly in the Guyanese context.•
• Proficient in GIS software and associated databases.
• Autonomy and strong writing skills for drafting technical reports and scientific articles.
• Good interpersonal skills, ability to work in a multidisciplinary team (internal and external), and ability to mentor young engineers, interns, and students. Knowledge transfer skills.
• Ability to communicate and engage effectively with various stakeholders (scientific, institutional, etc.).
• Knowledge of French regulations related to risks and hazard zoning (PPR) would be a plus.
• Proficiency in English is desired, and proficiency in Portuguese would be an asset.
Working conditions
This is a full-time position based in Cayenne, which may require occasional travel to the Scientific and Technical Center in Orléans, regional directorates located in mainland France or the Caribbean, or to neighboring countries.
A Category B driving license is required.
