Context and contributions of the position

For sustainable land use planning and management, the Risk Department (DRIS) of BRGM develops integrated approaches to managing natural and anthropogenic risks affecting the soil, subsoil, and coastal zone. The natural risks within DRIS's scope include ground movements, seismic and volcanic risks, and coastal risks, particularly those related to climate change.
Anthropic risks are those resulting from human activity, related to sites and soils degraded by industrial activities or former mining operations.
In this area, the DRIS provides its expertise in site characterization studies and risk assessments for major development projects in France and abroad, as well as in support of public policies. It also coordinates or contributes to public or contractual research programs through scientific partnerships with academic, institutional, and industrial stakeholders.

Job description

Your missions will be carried out in coordination with the heads of the DRIS units, the head of the RISQUES scientific program, and the heads of the associated sub-programs (ground natural hazards, seismic and volcanic risk, crisis management, coastal risks, and anthropogenic risks).
You will be required to :
- Initiate complex multidisciplinary project setups (French and European research calls, support for public policies or commercial projects in France and abroad),
-Ensure the management, coordination, and scientific leadership of these projects, respecting the schedule and budget, and contribute to their dissemination (scientific publications, conferences, etc.),
-Contribute to the implementation of BRGM's scientific strategy in the field of natural and anthropogenic risks, and develop multi-risk activities in the context of climate change adaptation, in collaboration with experts from the various thematic units,
-Become familiar with the research work of thematic experts to propose a coherent framework for multi-risk analysis,
-Build an international network on disaster risk prevention (Disaster Risk Management), including multi-risk and social sciences and humanities (SSH) dimensions.

Profile

Desired Start Date: October 1, 2026
Education: Master's degree (Bac+5)
Experience: More than 15 years

You will mobilize the following skills and qualities:

-Good knowledge of all geoscience professions,
- Proven experience in the field of natural and/or anthropogenic risks,
- Proven experience in managing large projects, both in France and abroad,
-Excellent interpersonal skills, sense of contact and negotiation,
-Good knowledge of public and private organizations, contracting authorities, and research funding agencies,
-Confirmed experience in setting up partnerships and complex projects,
-Initiative and sense of responsibility,
-Ability to communicate with scientific and institutional stakeholders,
-Proficiency in French and English.

Working conditions

Full-time position. This position requires frequent travel within mainland France and occasionally overseas and internationally. Cross-functional work across the various units of the DRIS.
