Context and contributions of the position

he Regional Directorate of La Réunion has as its main missions supporting public policies and research, particularly in the field of natural hazards. Within this framework, BRGM is involved in improving knowledge about phenomena and risks, prevention, and expertise. This mission is part of the RenovRisk 2 research project. The RenovRisk 2 research project follows on from the MvTerre-2 and RenovRisk Erosion research projects (http://www.brgm.fr/projet/mvterre-2-detection-suivi-modelisation-mouvements-terrain-grande-ampleur-reunion and https://www.brgm.fr/fr/reference-projet-acheve/renovrisk-erosion-imager-comprendre-structure-interne-glissements-terrain). The aim of this project is to monitor, understand, and remediate large-scale landslides in the Salazie cirque, within the context of climate change.

Job description

As part of your activities and in collaboration with an experienced research team, you will be primarily responsible for:
Participating in the acquisition and interpretation of monitoring data for large-scale landslides (GNSS, 3D topography, seismic, hydrometry, etc.);
Analyzing and modeling landslide dynamics;
Contributing to the consultation of companies regarding investigations carried out through subcontracting for landslide monitoring (boreholes, geotechnical tests, installation of in-situ measurement equipment, etc.);
Ensuring the dissemination and communication of scientific results (publications, conferences, etc.).

Profile

You hold a PhD in Earth Sciences obtained within the last three years, with a specialization in hydro-mechanics, geomorphology, or hydrogeology, and have proven expertise in the study of landslides.
You are proficient in GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS) and autonomous in data analysis through programming, particularly using Python (data processing, visualization, modeling, time series).Your academic background has provided you with solid knowledge in:

Geomorphology, geophysics (seismic, AEM)
Geology, geomechanics
Hydrogeology, hydrology
Applied mathematics
Additional skills are a strong asset:
Experience in topography, geodesy, and use of DGPS
Processing and analysis of seismic data (dv/v, H/V, quality)
Photogrammetry and 3D point cloud analysis

Time series monitoring and in-situ instrumentation (electronics, power supply, data transmission)

Familiarity with the territory of La Réunion or similar tropical volcanic island contexts
You demonstrate scientific rigor, independence in data interpretation, and proven ability to disseminate results (writing reports, scientific articles, presentations).You have excellent writing skills in both French and English, strong interpersonal abilities, and experience working in multidisciplinary teams, including remotely.You are able to regularly conduct fieldwork.
A category B driver's license is mandatory, as work involves mountainous areas and humid tropical climates, requiring autonomy and a strong interest in experimental work.

Working conditions
