Context and contributions of the position
Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The position is based at BRGM in Pessac within the R3C unit. Regular travel to field sites is expected. International missions in similar coastal environments are also planned. Occasional travel to Orléans may be required.
The coastal engineer will join a dynamic and multidisciplinary research team working on coastal systems. The work will focus on two main sites: the rocky coast of Charente and the Basque rocky coast. The successful candidate will be responsible for deploying monitoring equipment and processing the data collected. Close collaboration with researchers from LIENSs and SIAME will be essential. Strong interactions with the IRICOT–IRIMA project are also expected.
Job description
You will be mainly responsible for:
- Organization and implementation of field campaigns: planning, active participation, and ensuring safety protocols.
- Deployment and maintenance of monitoring systems: installation of sensors (pressure, currents, potentially seismic), maintenance, and data validation.
- Data analysis: processing time series, extracting marine events, and correlating them with meteorological and erosive factors.
- Study of sediment supply dynamics: quantification, assessment of protective or erosive impacts, and analysis of sediment transport processes.
- Contribution to modeling efforts as part of the IRICOT project (PEPR IRIMA) and Work Package 4 of the FALAISES project: integration of measured parameters and participation in impact simulations.
- Scientific dissemination: preparation of reports, scientific publications, and presentations at conferences.
