Context and contributions of the position

Joining Bureau de Recherche Géologique et Minière (BRGM), French Geological Survey, means becoming part of France's public reference institution for Earth sciences, bringing together 1,000 passionate experts across 29 entities located in mainland France and overseas territories.

BRGM's mission focuses on geological knowledge and understanding of soil and subsoil phenomena, with a key objective: addressing environmental challenges through innovative, socially impactful projects.

In a context where environmental challenges require rapid, reliable, and interoperable scientific responses, BRGM has launched the development of an Integrative Digital Platform to centralize, enhance, and disseminate scientific outputs.

This initiative is supported by a process of scientific production industrialization, ensuring the quality, maintainability, traceability, and reproducibility of research work.

The position is part of the Industrialization, Development and Integration Unit within the Digital Department (DNUM). Its mission is to support operational departments in the implementation of robust, sustainable, and business-oriented technical solutions.

Job description

As a Tech Lead in Scientific Development at BRGM, you will play a key role at the interface between research and industrialization. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Defining and implementing industrialization processes
- Supporting scientists in structuring, strengthening, and maturing their technical outputs
- Developing scientific applications
- Integrating solutions into the Integrative Digital Platform
- Building and leading a developer community

Profile

Education Required : Master's degree
Experience Required : 5 – 10 years

Technical Skills:
-Strong command of software development (Python, R, Matlab, C++); knowledge of Java or .Net / Angular is a plus
- Good understanding of software architecture
- Experience in industrialization and DevOps practices: containerization (Docker), packaging, deployment and maintenance of pipelines/applications, automated testing, CI/CD, GitLab

Scientific Skills:
- Solid understanding of data science or scientific modeling
- Strong scientific culture
- Ability to effectively communicate with researchers

Soft Skills:
- Technical leadership
- Communication and teaching skills
- Critical thinking and rigor
